STRICTLY Come Dancing star Gavin Henson has donated a signed pair of shoes to boost the Help Harriet Trust.

The 28-year-old Wales rugby player had promised to stop by at Inchcape Toyota, Pride Park, where staff and customers are cycling 3,381 miles on static bikes this week to raise money for the cause.

But Henson was unable to attend and help out after he narrowly avoided being booted from the dance floor at the weekend.

Paul Raby, general manager at Inchcape Toyota, said: "The fact he's still in Strictly means he hasn't got the time. So instead he's been kind enough to donate a pair of shoes right off the Strictly set."

The shoes will be auctioned alongside other items, including a signed picture of Rams and Nottingham Forest legend John McGovern lifting the European Cup.

The money will go towards the trust, set up in aid of 16-month-old Harriet Gregory, who has mystery multiple health problems and needs machines to keep her alive.

Her family aim to raise funds to build her a special room at her Spondon home. It needs to be sterile with oxygen cylinders, heart monitors and other requirements.

Henson is just one of a number of celebrities lined up to help staff reach 3,381 miles – the distance from Derby to New York.

Mr Raby said the challenge was going so well, they might consider doubling the distance. Last night he said: "At 10.45am this morning, we reached the 1,000-mile mark. We're going to see where we are on Monday and might do the cycle back from New York to Derby."

Helping out yesterday were former Leicester City stars Steve Walsh and Muzzy Izzet. Today Heart FM presenters Sam and Amy will take part.

A local musician has produced an album of music for babies and toddlers to raise money for the Help Harriet campaign.

“Music For Little Stars” is a series of short compositions recorded on guitars, keyboards and orchestral instruments, designed to help babies and toddlers relax.

The price is not fixed – people can pay what they like – and the album and its artwork are available to download at http://musicforlittlestars.bandcamp.com.  It would make an excellent Christmas present for any child under 2.

This is part of a wider campaign to help raise funds for the Help Harriet campaign and raise awareness of what is still an undiagnosed condition.

Harriet is 18 months old and was born unable to suck or swallow.  She needs a tracheotomy to enable her to breathe and has had to have major surgery on her spine to stop its curve affecting her internal organs.  Her neurological disorders are still undiagnosed.

Her family are raising money to fund a special room for Harriet and to pay for the equipment that keeps her alive.  Recent fundraising activities include a cycle event at Inchcape Toyota and unique “full monty” calendar of Spondon Traders.

Ben Haynes, who produced the album, said: “I have a daughter the same age as Harriet and when I heard about the campaign a year ago I really felt I wanted to help out.  I hope this raises a few pounds for an excellent cause.  I’m just glad I didn’t have to get my kit off in the snow like the Spondon Traders did…”

Twelve  men  braved the hazardous conditions bearing their private parts covered by a small item all in the name of little Harriet.

The Kindness and overwhelming support of the Traders of Spondon  has been incredible and was organized by John Burton the owner of Spondon News, as the men braved the freezing temperatures sinking below -9c .

They have organized a calendar shortly to go on sale and will be available at many of the shops in Spondon over the course of the next few weeks .

We have been told they are trying to raise £1000 for Harriet’s Trust Fund and we are so thankful for their help and support in these very difficult times.

We  sincerely  send our love and thanks to all who have participated you are true legends.
